I'm at that point that we all seem to reach where we find annoyances or limitations with the gear and realise Manfrotto is not always the safe brand to look to. I currently have a MT190CXPRO3 which I don't intend to replace (yet) and a 498RC2 head which I'm slowly falling out of love with. One feature I like about the Manfrotto Q6 plate is the plentiful spirit levels but I have read mixed reviews of the manfrotto heads. On this list is a new head with an arca style clamp. I didn't like some slack I felt in the center column of the one I messed with locally either. While maybe not RRS level (I'm not sure what would have to be improved cause they're really really good already) I think they represent extremely high value in the CF tripod space. I really can't speak highly enough of their products. The weight difference is only 0.4lbs, so if thats an issue consider that as well.įWIW I opted for the FEISOL system of tripods. Its aluminium and magnesium alloy construction allows a fairly light weight of half a kilo while supporting loads up to 10kg. I opted for the 40x so my kit was a bit more future proof, for the price difference anyway (~$20) it was a no brainer, and now If (read: when) I get heavier glass Ill be prepared and no redundancies.
